The money raised was sent to ”Rana Viru Sevana”- Army Rehabilitation Fund (Sri Lanka), for the production of artificial limbs for soldiers injured in the war against terrorists in Sri  Lanka. My visit to the ”Rana Viru Sevana” Limbs Production Centre in Sri Lanka later in the year, gave me the opportunity to see at first hand, how the money sent by me was utilised in the production of these limbs. A total of AUD 3500.00 was sent to the Centre, in aid of this cause by me.

Once I went there, I saw the conditions of the hospital which made me realise that I could do much better than merely give presents to individuals. I returned home to Melbourne planning a concert through which I’d try and raise a substantial amount of money in aid of this maternity  hospital. As a result of this trip, I organised, directed, and presented “Concertina 5″ in Dandenong, Victoria on the 11th of October. This was a massive cultural concert which received the support of many Sri lankans in Melbourne. I had a variety of singers and dancers performing on the night together with my students and I raised a profit of AUD 1,800.00 which was sent to the de Soysa Maternity Hospital in Colombo, by me.

This concert was sponsored by the Sinhala Cultural Association of Melbourne. This was a cultural night which featured my students as well as a variety of Sri Lankan performers in Melbourne who sang and danced on the night. The musical show was a terrific success and an amount of AUD 2000.00 was donated to the orphanage.

The concert  was  attended  by  appreciative  parents  and other family members of the students  and many people in the community who got a satisfying dose of musical enjoyment on the night.

They enjoyed performing to a very happy and supportive audience  and did their best to make the night a memorable and splendid one.
